Risk Overview

Ice sports are great fun and a fantastic recreational activity, however like many activities, they involve an element of risk.

At the Dunedin Ice Stadium, we are committed to your safety, and it is important you are aware of the risks present with on-ice activities.

These risks predominantly arise from:

  1. Falls due to slipping over or being bumped into

  2. Injury through improperly fitted equipment

  3. Failure to use recommended protective equipment

  4. Other users not following our Conditions of Use The risks associated with on-ice activities can result in serious injury including concussions, cuts, bruising and abrasions, bone breaks, sprains, or other forms of injury.

Your Role

Accordingly, as a user, you need to take care to minimise the risk of hurting yourself and other users. This extends to you understanding your own ability and situation, and being aware of other users. It also extends to you wearing proper protective equipment and using equipment as intended by the manufacturer. All participants must abide by the Conditions of Use available on our website and posted in the facility.

At a minimum, it is strongly recommended that you wear a helmet whenever you are on the ice. These are available free to use, or we encourage you to bring your own.

Acknowledgement and Ownership of Risk

You confirm that you have read and understood the Conditions of Use and the details above and will respect them and their implications. You understand that while there are safeguards in place and ways to minimise the risk of participating in ice sports, there is always a chance of injury and the only way to truly avoid all risk is not to participate.
